For you 2nd 3d Design Students. The showreel will need a computer model and all its materials. I shall do the rotation animation as the computers at college are a tad slow! So all I need from you is the 3d model of your Final Major Project, the title and any other work you want to show off!!! The movie will then be projected in your Final Show on Tuesday 9th June. All work is due on Friday 5th June.

Oh, Thursday 4th June in the afternoon (prob from 1:30pm!) we’ll try and get into the computer room and finish off your 3d work and presentations if we can’t get in we’ll do renderings and such. More you do the less you have to stress on Friday!

Check out the tutorial in the videos section. Below I had a little play with Tony’s exercise contraption…

With global illumination and no lighting. Just the model, sky and a plane object.

Same as above but with added light and shadow… Really do have a look at the tutorial it will show you how to do it!!!

A few of you have asked for some perspective templates. The templates I provide are just freehand sketches of boxes in different perspectives. As long as you start with something simple like a box you can then fill in the gaps. Imagine you are making a model in reality… its a case of knowing where and how to manipulate the material that you are working with… Anyhoo here it is:

Here’s a jet (kinda) and a mouse:

So most of you have now created a 3d model and a presentation. Time to do the next thing, a composite image of a figure sitting on your chair. We’re going to do this with more emphasis on the chair rather than the figure.
First you need to take a photo with someone sitting on your chair, makes sure you take a few to choose from, lots of angles as well as the front and side elevations. In this case I found an image online:

Now in Cinema 4d we recreate the scene above and angle the camera. Then render out using straight alpha channels:

Then open up both in Photoshop. We then need to draw around the figure using the Pen tool to create a path:

Open up the chair rendering and isolate the alpha channel:

Then open up a new document, copy the alpha channeled image onto it. Then bring the figure path onto the document. Compose it a bit and voila.

I will be running through this tutorial in more depth in the class. Hence why you need to be there on time!
P.S If you have completed your model and presentation… take a look at this : QTVR

Last week of computers so…
First task you will have to complete is:
Take any picture you wish. Upload it to your blog and then write/type 100 words on “How to blog text and upload images.” If you already know how to do this, this should take no longer than 10-15mins.
Now in order to pass the unit you will need to complete the following:
1. Abstract images
2. Initial ideas
3. Development of one initial concept
4. Digital explorations and representations of design ideas
5. Blog update of work completed
Examples of the work:
1. Abstract images (image courtesy of Sam)

2. Initial ideas

3. Development of one initial concept

4. Digital exploration and representation of idea
