For you 2nd 3d Design Students. The showreel will need a computer model and all its materials. I shall do the rotation animation as the computers at college are a tad slow! So all I need from you is the 3d model of your Final Major Project, the title and any other work you want to show off!!! The movie will then be projected in your Final Show on Tuesday 9th June. All work is due on Friday 5th June.

Oh, Thursday 4th June in the afternoon (prob from 1:30pm!) we’ll try and get into the computer room and finish off your 3d work and presentations if we can’t get in we’ll do renderings and such. More you do the less you have to stress on Friday!

Check out the tutorial in the videos section. Below I had a little play with Tony’s exercise contraption…

With global illumination and no lighting. Just the model, sky and a plane object.

Same as above but with added light and shadow… Really do have a look at the tutorial it will show you how to do it!!!

This is a little tutorial I put together for the 2nd Years last year. As you guys will be producing A2 boards I thought it would be pretty useful soooooo:
For this project you have been asked to produce an A2 presentation. Now the problem is that most printers are either A4 or A3, in some cases you may be able to print out A1-A0, but at college… nadda! The way to get around this is by tiling a presentation onto several pieces of paper. In this case we’ll use A3.
The trick is to have rulers set up and set at the halfway sections on the presentation. I have kindly created a A2 template for you to use A2 Template. Everything is set up from the rulers to the sizes etc. All you need to do is create the presentation and tile it onto the paper you are going to print on.
Here we go:

This is the PSD file on Photoshop. Next you need to add your presentation. After you have done that and finalized it you need to firstly SAVE it as a .PSD file, then flatten the image so it becomes one image. Layer > Flatten Image.

Once it has been flattened we need to crop the image to be able to fit on the A3 piece of paper. We are first going to crop the top part of the image. First select the crop tool:

Then select the area you wish to crop. We will click and drag from the top most left hand corner and drag halfway down the page all the way to the right. The part that will be cropped will turn dark grey:

Once you’ve cropped the image you hit ‘Enter’ and it should leave you with the top half of the image/presentation:

Now you can print off the image onto A3 by going to the print option and selecting ‘Print’ or ‘Print with Preview’. You then need to set the printer you are going to use by selecting ‘Page Setup’.

Select the printer you wish to use in this case ‘Epson 1200′, then select the paper size ‘A3′ and the orientation ‘Landscape’. Once that’s done click ‘OK’.

Once you’ve hit ‘OK’ it takes you back to the print settings and all you need to click on is ‘Scale to fit media’. Then hit ‘Print’.
Once the top half has been printed you need to go back to the point of cropping then crop the bottom half instead and repeat the process. Once both pages have been printed out you need to cut them and stick them together.
NOTE.
Something which you guys may soon realise is that depending on the picture you are using for your A2 Presentation there is a chance that it may be too small therefore your advert/poster will appear blurry. Therefore you will have to source larger pictures or even take your own!

Not much to say this week other than you need to have finalised your designs so that we can start modeling them up. Check the Video Tutorials page for a new Video (Boole, Symmetry and Array!). This is also available via Podcast!
